According to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, the soccer star's black Cadillac SUV rear-ended another vehicle on the 405 Freeway, which in turn rear-ended a stalled Mitsubishi. Witnesses say that Beckham tried to swerve around the stalled car but couldn't avoid it. Beckham, 36, and 12-year-old Brooklyn were described as "shaken up" but unharmed -- and, luckily, no one else involved in the collision was seriously injured either.
"It was a lucky escape and both were wearing seatbelts, otherwise they would have been more seriously hurt," a witness told U.K. newspaper The Daily Mail.
Also lucky: Neither the two younger boys nor their pregnant mother Victoria was in the car at the time. Victoria, in fact, was preparing for her baby shower the next day -- the first pink one, for her baby girl! -- hosted by pal Eva Longoria. A photo tweeted by the ex-Spice Girl shows her in an uncharacteristically silly moment, posing in a toilet-paper dress alongside the also-pregnant Selma Blair.
Other impressive guests in attendance were Demi Moore, Nicole Richie and stylist Rachel Zoe. One notable pal who was not in attendance was England's newest princess, Catherine Middleton -- despite rumors that her husband Prince William may be godfather to the new baby Beckham. The couple will most likely arrive in Los Angeles in July, right around the time that Victoria's little girl is born.
